Microsoft`s Windows XP is expected to debut tomorrow, with launch events for the new operating system planned around the world despite attempted injunctions.
Sting, an Englishman in New York, will croon for Microsoft founder Bill Gates and CEO Steve Balmer in the Marriott Marquis on Times Square - the location of the New Yorkers` annual New Year`s bash. Gates apparently chose New York after the Big Apple`s mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, requested businesses to not abandon New York after the 11 September disaster.
SA`s launch event is planned at the Montecasino tomorrow afternoon. The local launch will offer attendees the opportunity to use the product as they move through three rooms designed to highlight specific features - the Grand Prix Room, the Kids Room, and the Lounge.
Copies of XP should be available in stores from the date of launch, although there are rumours of some delays. Incredible Connection will offer a 50% discount on the product country-wide, while stocks last.
The injunctions brought against Microsoft`s launch of Windows XP seem unlikely to succeed at this point. New York attorney-general Elliot Spitzer is considering filing for an injunction due to anti-competitive issues; senator Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat and member of the Senate Judiciary Committee has concerns regarding privacy in Windows XP; and InterTrust says Windows` Activation technology violates four InterTrust patents.
