Xylo brings international standards home

Xylo, the own brand PC division of Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD), a member of the Siltek IT Supply Chain, has announced the Xylo Book PC which is aimed at the small to medium enterprise (SME) market.

"Xylo is breaking ground with the launch of this computing appliance that will benefit users through its low cost and local design, support and maintenance," says Tracy Engelbreht, Xylo product manager. The Xylo Book PC wears different hats, which includes use as a corporate workstation or workgroup PC and is also suited for schools and home use.

Being slightly larger than an A4 page and 8cm in height it fits unobtrusively into the home environment, where it is able to function as either a PC or integrated media centre - connecting to a TV/Video, Hi-Fi and DVD. The product comes bundled with Word Perfect Suite 8, Gummit Multimedia Applications and Trend Anti-virus software , which offers the basic functionality users require.

"It features the Intel 810 chipset, while sporting a built in fax/modem, network card and four-channel sound," says Engelbrecht. Additional features include VGA Dynamic video on board with TV-Out Port, including a 52x CD ROM drive and 3D graphics acceleration. Buyers are able to select a processor, memory and hard drive - with capacities up to 20 GB.

Due to the fact that a monitor needs to be purchased separately, users should consider a monitor to suit their applications. Engelbrecht adds: "By selecting the correct monitor for the environment, the Book PC can become a fully functional workstation."

One of the more refreshing features of the product is its simplified setup through the use of colour-coded ports and cables for connecting peripherals. "Users are now able to match cables and ports by colour, ensuring correct set up the first time around," Engelbrecht explains.

Although Xylo manufactures a standard line of products, clients are presented with the added option of a custom-built Book PC. "Before the finished product leaves the premises the client is welcome to come and inspect the product for themselves and determine whether it complies with the specifications put forward," Engelbrecht concludes.
