Xylo sets new PC standards

Johannesburg, 09 Jan 2001

In a bid to further its quality assurance, Xylo, the local brand PC division of Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD), a member of JSE-listed Siltek Limited, SA`s largest Technology Supply Chain Group, has announced that all its motherboards are now ISO certified.

"Although our assembly line has been ISO certified for quite a while we have now completed the offering by ensuring that our motherboards also adhere to the ISO design standard - resulting in the entire Xylo operation being ISO9002 certified," explains Mark Forbes, Xylo product manager. Forbes points to the growing trend of local tenders demanding international standards such as PC99, which requires ISO-certification as a standard on motherboards. " of certified PCs is growing in the workplace, and although our technology has always been of the highest quality, we felt the need to further add recognised certifications for our customers` peace of mind."

Forbes is of the opinion that this type of certification will serve to close the gap between local and international brands. "Local PC buyers seems to have a perception that local brands and international brands are on different quality levels, and a certification such as this will help to rectify this," he explains.

"I believe this will set a standard for other home-grown brands to follow, thus ensuring quality as well as value-pricing," concludes Forbes.
