MGE UPS Systems has declared all of its products to be Y2K compliant. This includes the full range of Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS), all software and communications options, line conditioners, and active harmonic conditioners.
The announcement comes in the wake of speculation regarding the compliancy and readiness of IT products as the Y2K "Doomsday" spectacle looms over the industry.
Tim Driessel, MGE product manager at Tarsus Technologies, says the range of MGE products provide reliable power supplies in vertical markets including the banking, telecommunications, medical environments. UPSs (Uninterruptible Power Supplies) are an ideal way of providing vital protection for the operation of computer installations. Moreover, with the use of powerful communications programs, MGE`s UPSs are able to collect and report on information relevant to the management of UPSs (such as battery charging, remaining operating life and load levels) and in relation to their environment (raised temperature, f1res, etc.). Similarly, it can shut down files by automatic remote control, if there is a mains failure.
UPS Overview:
A UPS is the interface between the electricity mains supply and a piece of sensitive equipment, including mainframes, micro-computers, as well as medical and electronic equipment. The electricity utility companies supply alternating current at 230V, 50 Hz. The only way of storing electricity, in a battery for example, is to convert the alternating current from the mains to direct current. The UPS is a buffer battery which is placed between the mains connection and the computer. It converts the alternating current from the mains to direct current to charge the battery, then reconverts it to alternating current to supply the computer.
The function of a UPS can be optimised by means of communications software, linking it with various network and operation administrative platforms.
