Software and Web development company Csonke Solutions has won a contract to provide IT and electronic communications solutions for the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa conference and exhibition in Pretoria this month.
Local government representatives from across Africa will attend the conference at the Tshwane Business Centre.
Csonke has won the deal to provide continuous IT services and bill accordingly, so the value of the deal cannot be announced at this stage.
The company says the deal is the latest in a string of business achievements and one of the biggest to date.
The company was founded five years ago with R2 000 seed capital when the two owners were 17 and 19. It is jointly owned through its investment company Csonke Holdings, and technology and telecommunications company, Moloko Technology Group.
Csonke CEO Zibusiso Mkwhanazi says the conference is aimed at promoting communication between central and local governments, civil societies and the international community, to find common solutions to problems faced by local governments in Africa.
"With a view to adopting decentralisation among Africa`s development issues, the conference also seeks to present opportunities for African integration for local governments," says Mkhwanazi.
"Csonke will be responsible for facilitating an effective online communication system, including developing a multilingual Web site of the conference to be marketed throughout the continent and internationally."
Mkhwanazi says working on such a project will strengthen the company`s profile in the public sector, while presenting an opportunity for the organisation to contribute towards better service delivery using effective ICT systems.
Csonke executive director Neo Motlhabane says the conference presents an opportunity for co-operation and partnerships between the IT industry and local government.
"A forum of this nature shows an increase in the understanding of the impact innovation and bridging the digital divide can have in the further development of Africa."
Motlhabane adds that this will also create new opportunities for Csonke to penetrate the African market and gain recognition as an international company.
