Who took part?
The 2012 edition saw a marked increase in enterprise respondents, with nearly 40% of survey participants working for organisations with over 1 000 PC users. As can be expected, the majority of respondents were IT professionals, although (non-IT) management made up close to 32% of the overall audience.
In total, over 200 organisations were represented, with a healthy geographical split as follows: 48.7% African, 27.2% North American, 18% EU and 5.6% of companies were located in Asia.
Key survey topics
The enterprise IT landscape has seen several significant shifts in recent years, specifically in the way business-critical data is created, accessed, shared and stored.
New legislations (around the world) have had a dramatic increase in focus on GRC-related processes surrounding data security, while cloud, corporate file sharing and access through a multitude of devices have demanded a significant shift in impetus towards securing data on endpoint devices.
* The Cibecs 2012 Business Data Loss Survey Report concentrates on data mobility and the challenges that accompany this dramatic shift.
* The increased popularity of bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and importance of governance, risk and compliance (and IT's role in GRC) also feature strongly, as does the practical application of cloud solutions in enterprise environments, the lack of business executives' understanding of the consequences of data loss, and the usual trends and data loss statistics of 2012 (to date).
