YouTube announces pay-per-view option
YouTube publishers with early access to YouTube Live can now monetise their live events with advertising or pay-per-view options that can be priced differently by country, Digital Media Wire reports.
According to GigaOM, YouTube announced pay-per-view as part of a set of new features rolled out for the one-year anniversary of its live streaming platform.
YouTube Live, as it is officially called, is still only available to select publishers, but there are plans to eventually make it more widely available.
In addition to adding the ability to charge for access to a live streaming event, content creators can include banner and Google Adsense advertising on the video page, Digital Trends writes.
YouTube developers have also added real-time analytics as well as a way to preview live events before pushing the video page live on YouTube.
Access to real-time data will allow content creators to immediately see what regions of the world are streaming the video in addition to information such as number of playbacks, the amount of current viewers and the average time spent watching the streaming feed.
