Zazu launches Afrikaans ISP portal called Onsnet

Johannesburg, 04 Apr 2006

Zazu Internet (www.zazu.co.za) recently teamed up with well reputed and established Afrikaans content provider `Roekeloos` to supply Afrikaans content for its new Onsnet brand.

"The new Onsnet division is not intended to operate as a separate company," says Zazu spokesman Francois Joubert, "but should rather be seen as an effort to reach a niche Afrikaans-speaking community, which we believe will appreciate being serviced in their home language, and will enjoy the witty content that we bring them through Onsnet (www.onsnet.co.za)."

Zazu established itself as a noteworthy ISP in 2004 when it acquired the client base of prepaid ISP Yournet, and made headlines again later that same year with the acquisition of Rumba Internet.

Rumba (www.rumba.co.za), now a healthy brand in the Zazu stable, celebrates its second birthday in April, and Zazu decided to turn back the clock on some of the prices that had Rumba in the news two years ago. New subscribers who sign up during the April celebration month can do so for only R49/pm for dial-up, or get ADSL from R85/pm.

According to Joubert, Zazu Internet is here to stay. "Zazu enjoys a healthy 8.5% monthly organic growth, and since we do little commercial advertising, this growth is certainly a direct result of effective word-of-mouth referrals from happy Zazu subscribers."

The company is investigating strategic alliances with advertising partners to strengthen its brand, and has confirmed talks with another smaller ISP for the acquisition of its client base.
