Zen Computing, a South African software developer, today announced that it has released the second version of its XML- orientated Content Management System, Insite 2.0. This second release not only adds increased functionality to the original version, but is significantly faster, and additionally, comes with two new optional modules: Permissions and Workflow.
The major benefits incorporated in the Insite 2.0 base product are:
An easy-to-use content editor that has been given a significant design update which has resulted in providing superior performance over the earlier version, as well as making it considerably easier to use,
Re-designed style sheets that ensure a shorter installation time for the creation of web-site content,
The ability to use multiple sources of data for content information, which could be multiple files and/or databases, and,
A substantial enhancement in its ability to deliver tailored content, over and above the standard means of delivering it via HTML browsers. This delivery could be via, for example, a WAP version, a PDF file produced "on the fly", or any XML compliant format.
The Permissions Module
Insite is a product that accommodates distributed content entry and ownership, thus allowing the capability of being edited from any workstation that has a browser capability. The "Permissions" module provides larger organisations in particular, the ability to control both who is able to edit content and what content can be edited, under the overall control of the Systems Administrator. This module has been implemented so that the ability to edit Web-content has been designed on a Role and Group basis, rather than assigned on an individual user basis.
The Workflow Module
The "Workflow" module, which requires the mandatory use of the "Permissions" module, allows organisations to define multiple steps that may need to be followed prior to any article or content becoming "live" on the web-site. This is a proactive module, in that it incorporates the ability to prompt individuals, via e-mail if necessary, to react to "new" content for approval or for any other purpose, prior to it becoming "live".
Insite, a complete system and not a framework that requires additional programming, is already installed in a number of sites in South Africa, including major corporate organisations. It is available on conventional licensing terms as well as on a rental basis for small enterprises, thus offering an "ASP" type capability.
