A new Zimbabwean Bill proposes a monitoring centre to eavesdrop on telephone, Internet and other communications, says BBC News.
Opposition and civil society groups are angered at the proposed law, even though the government insists it is in aid of protecting people from organised crime.
Zimbabwean telephone calls are already monitored, but will need to be connected to the monitoring centre. Internet communications will be monitored using an encrypted overseas-based Web mail service.
