Zimele Technologies launches course to address shortage of ERP skills training.

With SSETA provisional accreditation, Zimele Technologies launched an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) skills training programme in October 2007. The Cape Town-based IT consulting firm is the only company registered with the Services Seta to provide training in ERP.

The programme is targeted at individuals who want to enter the world of SAP or general ERP consulting, as it provides learners with a grounded and solid ERP foundation to build upon.

The programme does not assume previous ERP or IT experience or education. The programme content is user friendly and especially targeted at individuals who seek a career change.

Enrolled for the course are four females and one male, all from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The learners will complete the five core modules in January 2008. After which Zimele Technologies will place them with companies.

Training delivery is in the form of classroom teaching, not exceeding 30% of the total component. The remaining percentage component is hands-on training on a live SAP system. This practical component will be assessed through assignments and projects with coaching and mentorship provided by Zimele on its premises in the Cape Town CBD.

Says Thando Mjebeza, CEO of Zimele Technologies and IT lecturer at the University of the Western Cape: "We began four years ago as a learnership and internship programme run by the University of the Western Cape, in partnership with the City of Cape Town. The results have been amazing. In just five years 80 students went through the internship and over 40 have graduated as SAP consultants."

Zimele partnered with consulting firm Accenture to deliver the R140 million ERP system to the City of Cape Town. As a high point, the City of Cape Town won the worldwide award for the Best SAP Implementation in local government.

As a further testimony of success, another Zimele client, Pick `n Pay, won the award for Best Retail SAP Implementation. Zimele worked with UCS as lead on this project. By way of this strategic alliance, UCS supported Zimele through capacity building.

With this formalised ERP course, Zimele has crystallised all its expertise and knowledge into a SSETA-accredited certificate. Learners will have the assurance of a nationally and internationally recognisable qualification in ERP that gives them access to platforms such as SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft. Added to this, learners accumulate SAQA NQF credits.
