Zmanda announces two new releases of its software

Linux Warehouse, the Sub-Saharan distributor for Zmanda and the premier distributor of enterprise open source software for southern Africa, today announced the latest releases of some of the latter's software, ie, Amanda Enterprise (AE) 3.3, its simple, intelligent and robust network backup and recovery software; and Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) 3.5, its simple, intelligent and robust backup and recovery software for MySQL.

"Explosive data growth, combined with demanding requirements for data availability, has placed a tremendous burden on IT operations staff at businesses of all sizes. Yet, many organisations do not have the staff or budget to purchase and manage complex and expensive backup and recovery software products," commented Jan-Jan van der Vyver, Managing Director of Linux Warehouse.

"Amanda Enterprise was designed to address these challenges by providing a backup and recovery solution that combines fast installation, simplified management, enterprise-class functionality, and low-cost subscription fees. As an open source product, Amanda Enterprise only uses standard formats and tools, thus effectively freeing the user from being locked into a vendor to recover its archived data.

"Data protection is vital to database professionals. A well run database must have proper backup and recovery plans to ensure data availability and integrity in case of accidental data loss or destruction," continued Van der Vyver. "In today's business environment, explosive data growth combined with shorter backup and recovery windows, makes the task more difficult, and with MySQL supporting businesses running full throttle 24-hours a day, seven days a week, backup and recovery operations need to be conducted in such a way that is non-disruptive to users and applications. ZRM for MySQL simplifies the life of a database administrator, who needs an easy-to-use yet flexible and robust backup and recovery solution and is the only solution endorsed by MySQL.

"These two new releases are the latest iterations from Zmanda and include a number of additional facilities and capabilities over previous releases," concluded Van der Vyver. "These releases are just part of the planned ongoing development that Zmanda undertakes on a regular basis and a strategy that also allows for input back from the user community."
