ZTE, netmedia successfully upgrade bearer network for cable network operator primacom

ZTE Corporation ("ZTE") (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, and its partner, netmedia, announced the successful upgrade of the bearer network of German cable operator primacom.

Improvements to the integrated service-bearing capacity and data transmission rate, made possible by operations based on solutions from ZTE, have greatly contributed to primacom's success as a leading cable network operator in Germany. Primacom uses the ZTE-based infrastructure to offer its customers analogue and digital TV services as well as VOD, Internet and voice services.

Primacom needed its existing bearer network to be upgraded in order to support the development of new service types and increased bandwidth requirements. ZTE successfully modernised the network with the introduction of ZTE DWDM and SDH products as well as switches and other customised solutions.

Primacom is using ZTE products to ensure consistent and reliable operations of its infrastructure, which enables the company to offer its services in several German states. The migration of the previous system to future operations that standardise on ZTE solutions started as early as in 2011 - the bearer network will become fully ZTE-based in 2014.

ZTE products and solutions met the massive bandwidth requirements for the development of primacom's TV services and helped the cable network operator effectively improve its competitiveness. The increase in new users is bringing enormous business opportunities to primacom. The services offered by primacom - TV, VOD, Internet and voice - are provided over long distances to several German states where they are distributed to primacom's customers via suitable access technology.

Primacom, one of the four major cable operators in Germany, was one of the earliest suppliers of IPTV services in Germany. It provides its users with CATV and various IPTV services, such as SDTV, HDTV and 3D. In addition to the basic communication services, including TV, high-speed Internet and voice, primacom also provides intelligent applications for government and enterprise use including elderly-care applications, remote metering, and home security. It dominates the eastern German market.
