Zynga, Hasbro partner on real-world games

Rivals in the world of online videogames, Hasbro and Zynga, are becoming partners in the physical realm of toys and board games, The Wall Street Journal reveals.

Hasbro, the maker of Scrabble and Monopoly, will create games and toys from Zynga's popular online games, which include FarmVille and Mafia Wars.

Forbes says that, for Zynga, the deal represents a new revenue line and a way to increase general marketing for the company's games.

Other videogame companies have done merchandising deals, most notably Rovio's Angry Birds. The companies did not specify what toys or games would be created.

Zynga's social games have 227 million monthly active users, with 14.9 million monthly active users on Words With Friends alone, Fast Company notes.

"It's exciting to partner with Hasbro as we share a common vision for play and a mission to connect the world through games," said Zynga CEO Mark Pincus.
