Duxbury, Cabletron offer life insurance for LANs

Cabletron`s LanCare for Life concept, exclusive to Duxbury in SA, guarantees a two-hour response time and a replacement or newer version of the faulty unit at no cost to the customer. Duxbury expects to lose some revenue in the short-term but believes the concept will help the company grow market share. "LanCare offers dramatic savings and allows us to lock people in for Cabletron in the future," says Graham Duxbury, MD of Duxbury Networking.

Alcatel awarded US$265 million contract to develop international connectivity to Africa

Alcatel says it has been chosen as sole supplier of the Telkom undersea cabling project, SAT-3/WASC, in a contract worth $265 million. The company will also supply an integrated network management solution between the network and SAFE, a Telkom cabling project to the Far East. SAT-3/WASC will comprise of an express route between SA, Ghana, the Ivory Coast, Senegal and Portugal as well as a number of other African countries. The network is scheduled for completion in early 2001.

DNS Direct Web site set for launch tomorrow

[Phillip de Wet]DNS, the Dimension Data owned networking company, will launch its DNS Direct Web site, a shopfront for networking equipment, on 1 July. The group promises that the Direct initiative will slash prices, streamline purchasing and make a boatload of money. Corporate clients will have pre-negotiated discounts and can receive an instant quote with product availability and the expected delivery time.
