Mimecast accelerates lead in cloud e-mail security in a shifting business environment

Mimecast, the leading supplier of cloud-based e-mail archiving, continuity and security for Microsoft Exchange, Hosted Exchange and Office 365, has once again been recognised as the frontrunner in hosted e-mail management and security solutions, according to research group, BackChannel.

According to BackChannel's biannual Hosted Email Security Report, Mimecast has further re-enforced its position as South African leader in the managed e-mail security market, accounting for 33.7% of industry adoption - up from 28.4% in January 2012.

Significantly, Mimecast has enjoyed considerable growth within larger organisations with 250 employees or more - up 9.9% to a 41% share of the market year-on-year since January 2012.

According to Steve Barnett, Director at BackChannel Research, this development may have been spurred on by a newfound desire within larger organisations to migrate to cloud-based offerings.

"We've seen the South African cloud computing and hosted solutions markets expand rapidly in the past few years. This has seen larger organisations begin to closely investigate whether these services are delivering the tangible business value they had initially promised.

"In response, we have seen a growing number of enterprises consolidate poorly performing cloud offerings into only a few packages facilitated by trusted providers. Mimecast, complemented by a decade of reliable service delivery and product innovation, which is aimed at driving value, is swiftly becoming the industry favourite," continued Barnett.

Mimecast Marketing Director, Elize Holl, says: "In order for organisations to truly derive value from cloud-based services, they must start with the basics. Not too long ago, it seemed many corporate entities had allowed themselves to be swept up in the hype surrounding the cloud without truly investigating how these services might tangibly improve employee efficiency and boost productivity while reducing IT capital expenditure. Today, these same organisations are beginning to question where the value lies.

"I believe Mimecast continues to expand its market share because we place a great deal of focus on understanding customer needs prior to implementation and by subsequently assisting them throughout the life cycle of that deployment."

Notably, BackChannel's Hosted Email Security Report also highlights the emergence of Mimecast as a favoured supplier of cloud-based services in six sectors such as retail, construction, finance, wholesale trade, service industries and mining.

"This growth indicates that industries in which employees require remote access to corporate information in a secure manner are beginning to embrace the value in cloud-based services," adds Holl.

Garth Wittles, Managing Director at Mimecast South Africa, comments: "It's vital that organisations adopting cloud for the first time have a clear roadmap of what they want to achieve. Mimecast's expertise exists within simplifying, unifying and enhancing the cloud's various capabilities. Ultimately, I believe our consistent growth and expanding market share is a good reflection of this."
