QlikTech acquires Expressor Software

QlikTech has announced it plans to acquire Expressor Software, with a keen interest in spreading its metadata and governance capabilities across the QlikView Business Discovery platform, Information Management reports.

Expressor's software surrounds semantic ETL and integration with a learning engine. With a standing partnership and existing integrations between the two providers, QlikView announced that QlikView Expressor Server, a metadata solution, would be available immediately.

According to Biztech2, as enterprise business discovery momentum has increased, the need to describe data consistently and then reuse it to speed up deployment of additional applications has grown.

To expand the use of QlikView's Business Discovery platform, a metadata intelligence solution will help IT departments to know what data is being used and how it is being used (data lineage), while ensuring consistency and appropriate reuse of common data definitions (data governance).

QlikTech's partnership and now acquisition of Expressor points to a new wave of interaction between smaller independent BI software firms, Smart Data Collective writes.

Previously, these firms would try to partner with the high-tech titans to “ride their coattails” and sometimes hope they would be acquired by them. Now it seems that the smaller firms are aware they can partner or acquire peers that have complementary solutions.
