McAfee, Inc (NYSE: MFE) has announced that Africa University is using McAfee's ePolicy Orchestrator enterprise anti-virus solution to ensure all its networked computers have the most updated anti-virus protection.
Africa University is located 17km outside Mutare, Zimbabwe's third largest city and is a private, Pan-African and United Methodist-related institution.
According to Nodumo Dhlamini, director: ICT Department at Africa University, the institution has used McAfee products since 1998.
"The key reason for our selection of ePolicy Orchestrator was based on the fact that we needed a solution that matched our business needs. The ePolicy Orchestrator approach made it possible for us to define our processes as a company. Central management of this solution is an added bonus as it allows us to monitor the status of machines on our network."
Dhlamini maintains that McAfee's visible support was a key consideration in the university's continued use of these products.
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator is a security management solution that provides businesses with a coordinated defence against malicious threats and attacks. As a central hub, companies can keep protection up to date; configure and enforce protection policies; and monitor security status from one centralised console.
"ePolicy Orchestrator allows users to effectively manage policy compliance and updates; lowering the risk of noncompliant systems compromising security," says Mike Hynard, channel manager: Africa at McAfee. "It also handles enterprise-wide system protection with its centralised management infrastructure, covering anti-virus, anti-spyware, host IPS, content filtering and Microsoft patch assessment.
"This solution allows an organisation like Africa University to monitor security status 24/7, evaluate its policy status and find its network's vulnerabilities from one centralised console."
The university has not experienced downtime due to a major virus attack since it began using McAfee products. "We are always a step ahead," explains Dhlamini. "This enables us to be more pro-active in terms of threats than we had been in the past.
"ePolicy Orchestrator has also given us value for money - we no longer need personnel to manually update machines and the e-mail notifications received have provided greater efficiency. In addition, the centrally printed reports ensure that our support personnel are kept abreast of security issues," Dhlamini concludes.
