The Coindirect crypto-currency trading platform debuts in SA.

Crypto-currency enthusiasts in SA can now use Coindirect to trade their digital currencies, after the online platform went live in the country.

South Africa joins the UK, Nigeria and Kenya to go live with the online crypto-currency trading platform ahead of a global rollout in 2018.

With offices in London and the Isle of Man, where it is registered with the Financial Services Authority, Coindirect enables buying and selling crypto-currencies online.

The platform is backed by a consortium of technology investors based in the UK and SA.

According to the company, it supports one of the widest ranges of local-to-crypto-currency transactions available, with 25 different digital coins in its marketplace.

"We're extremely excited to be offering our customers across the globe the ability to buy popular crypto-currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum in their local currencies," says director Basil Bielich.

"By simplifying and demystifying the process of purchasing crypto-currencies, we hope to accelerate their adoption across the globe."

The crypto-currency trading platform says its escrow system takes the complexity out of buying crypto-currencies such as Bitcoin.

"Coindirect.com offers traders a secure environment with instant transfers and full wallet support, allowing users to buy and sell multiple currencies using a single account. Not only can customers buy altcoins with their local currency, they are also able to exchange between currencies.

"There's no uncertainty when making a trade. All trading fees are built into the market price: that means for traders, what you see is what you pay."
