US workers go mobile

A Unisys-IDC survey of 2 820 respondents reveals the US workforce is increasingly mobile, using laptops and smartphones to do their jobs, states Technology Live.

The survey says 86% of respondents e-mail while on vacation; 62% view and send e-mails from family gatherings; 40% aged 18 to 25 send business e-mails from bed, and 33% of respondents send e-mails from entertainment events.

"The research shows a profound disconnect between what workers are doing with consumer technologies and what IT leaders believe is happening in their organisations," says John Gantz, chief research officer and senior VP, IDC.
