Microsoft Office 365: A cloud solution for businesses of the future

Johannesburg, 15 Jul 2019

According to a recent survey, “77% of South African businesses are currently using cloud services in their IT department”. This includes usage for backup and telecommunication services. Whether you are an SME or large enterprise, the cloud has become increasingly accessible – not only for storage and backup purposes, but also for general work functionality and collaboration.

At Adept, we pride ourselves in offering services and solutions that can enable clients to perform at their best, while keeping up with the industry trends. We therefore decided to make Microsoft Office 365 one of our main services offerings as part of our Managed Services product suite.

With Office 365, you are able to utilise the set of desktop applications that you have come to know and love, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, while gaining a few handy extras to make communication and teamwork an easier and more natural process. What makes this product special is the fact that all these applications are also available online, enabling colleagues to collaborate simultaneously, while staying assured that their files are safely stored on the cloud. No Internet access? No problem! Work offline and sync your changes once you’re back online.

It also provides users with various options when it comes to sharing files and streamlining tasks, ultimately resulting in more cost-effective and efficient work processes. For example, depending on the nature of the file and level of collaboration that you require, you could share a file in an e-mail, upload it to OneDrive and share a link, upload the file to your SharePoint site, or add it to a folder or chat in teams as part of collateral that is available to your team.

If you are concerned about safety, Office 365 applications and management tools have all been designed to meet enterprise security and compliance challenges. And to further ensure that you know your work will always be accessible, Microsoft Office 365 has a 99.9% financially backed uptime guarantee. There are also services such as Advanced Threat Protection that can be added to your mailboxes to protect against external attacks in real-time.

As a business, your data is integral to your success, and we understand that you do not want to take risks when it comes to shifting over to new cloud solutions. The actual cost of making this move and decommissioning your legacy systems could also seem like a daunting task, but with our specialised Managed Services skillset and access to the best of breed technologies, we can help you make the transition over a time period that would suit your strategy and budget.

If you feel that you want to initially shift a select few of your business functions over to Office 365 and continue to use other legacy systems that work for you, hybrid solutions are also available. That is the beauty of the cloud – customisation and scalability are no longer issues.

What’s more, once your systems are running on the cloud, you will free up time that was previously spent upgrading hardware and updating software. Imagine what your IT department could do by spending time developing more systems that would support your business strategy.
