SETCom secures Nomad technology

Johannesburg, 06 Nov 2000

Commerce service provider SETCom has secured exclusive Internet distribution rights for South African developed POS software, NOMAD.

Having been the first local company to achieve SET (Secure Electronic Transaction) compliance last year, SETCom now intends to become the first Commerce Service Provider with the capability to route online transactions to all South Africa's major banks. This will be made possible by the Nomad software, which could be described as an integrated credit card acquiring solution for retail networks. Designed to access multiple service providers, including banks, municipalities and loyalty hosts, Nomad is also platform independent and can be offered via low cost terminals, low end PC based customer service terminals, and high-end cash dispensing kiosks.

SETcom's intention is to employ these innovative features as the backbone of a solution to maintain a single software platform across the different configurations of the user end solution.

"In other words, where Nomad normally has a POS solution in the physical world, our agreement covers the application of their technology on the Internet," SETcom Sales and Marketing director Jentje Hoadley explains.

Another unique service based on the Nomad platform that the dynamic company is aiming to introduce early next year is the ability to enable websites to accept third party payment, real time EFT and in-house branded cards.

The Virtual application of the Nomad technology opens the door to various e-commerce transaction methods and protocols, which will enable SETcom to offer additional payment offerings more applicable to the B2B environment. Previously, the company was active predominantly in the B2C arena.
