Software AG has unveiled In-Genius, a platform that aims to scale big data into real-time information within microseconds.

Speaking during the unveiling in Johannesburg yesterday, Mike Allen, VP for product management at Terracotta, a Software AG company, made note of how In-Genius is powered by Big Memory 4.0 and he mentioned how the software delivers real-time insights from any big data to any type of device.

"Big data is pervasive - these days smartphones collect information that is useful to business. If a business can't extract value, then big data is a problem because value relies on big data insight being fast," noted Allen.

He also mentioned that due to the evolution of data, companies now needed to scale so as to maximise on big data.

"The world of data is divided into application and business analytics, both are too slow and the complexity doesn't scale. The world of business is changing, businesses need to be instantaneous," he added.

According the Software AG, the In-Genius platform will integrate latency messaging and event stream processing of data from all data sources, forming a scalable and very fast in-memory platform.

Additionally, it says In-Genius will enable high-volume applications to communicate in microseconds with each other and with in-memory data stores. With its event-driven architecture, Software AG also explains that In-Genius will gather and act upon streaming or complex events for reporting, analysis and real-time response.

The software giant also points out that the ability to act on insights derived from terabytes of data in real-time can transform entire industries.

"Some of the game changers with big data are the new information sources that weren't available such as mobile devices, search engines, turbines and RFID data. We're looking at the ability to turn data into actionable information that businesses can make decisions on as it arrives," Allen added.

He explained that if businesses changed how they managed data they could change the business landscape by interplaying between the two trends.

"The ability to use data at such extremity is because RAM prices have plummeted. Big memory means direct RAM access, full hardware utilisation, predictable latency, and no virtualisation. The In-Memory platform provides intelligent actions from big data, to and from anywhere including the Web, point of sale and mobile devices," added Allen.

Allen concluded by urging businesses to consider the importance of having real-time analytics for big data.

"Big data has arrived and memory is affordable. It is essential for businesses to analyse information as it happens to assist in countering fraud and make intelligent decisions."
