Standard Bank has introduced a new business electronic banking product named Best 2000 to replace the videotext-based Bank Electronic Solutions Transmission (Best). Best 2000 is Internet-based and runs on the Windows platform.

The system features 128-bit encryption and can be accessed via any Internet service provider and the Telkom virtual private network, CyberTrade, which replaces the Beltel network.

"This product will ensure that Standard Bank retains its lead in this increasingly competitive market as business moves into the new millennium, with its new demands and challenges," says Peter Godlonton, deputy GM of Standard Bank Commercial.

Standard says the emphasis is on ease of use, with search and sort facilities and a point-and-click interface.

Other features include updated statements in a variety of formats, up to 65 days of historical data and online help screens. A dedicated call centre has also been set up.
