ACS terminal devices now accept Samsung Pay

Johannesburg, 08 Mar 2019

With customers now having more choice on how and when to pay, retailers and payment solution leaders are encouraged to adapt to the changing technology.

As mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) devices are spinning wheels in the payments industry, adopting mPOS technology is crucial in today's market, giving customers the opportunity to pay at their convenience.

ACS, a division of JSE-listed Altron, has partnered with Samsung Pay to ensure customers can transact conveniently and seamlessly, as selected ACS terminals now accept Samsung Pay as a payment option.

Tap and pay/contactless ready payment terminals

If your payment terminal is tap and pay/contactless enabled, please follow the normal tap and pay process and ask your customer to hold their Samsung smartphone or wearable on the top of the payment terminal where you see the contactless sign.

Non-tap and pay terminals

If your payment terminal requires you to first input the amount the customer must pay, follow the normal procedure you would with a plastic card. Once you pass the terminal to the customer as requested, the customer should hold their Samsung smartphone next to the magnetic reader on the card machine, where you would normally swipe your plastic card, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

If your terminal does not require an amount first and does not accept tap and pay, please advise your customer to hold the Samsung smartphone next to the magnetic reader on the card machine, where you would normally swipe your plastic card, to wake up the payment terminal and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the transaction.

While many South Africans are fearful of their data, ACS devices have a point-to-point encryption (P2PE) solution, ensuring security for these transactions. P2PE ensures confidential card payment data and information is encrypted at the point the payment is taken, therefore removing clear cardholder data from a retailer's network. As a result, P2PE is considered a highly secure method of transmitting data.

Companies like ACS and Samsung are collaborating to provide innovation that matters and ensuring they adapt, evolve and innovate to meet customers' needs and wants, making it an easier, safer and more convenient payment environment.
