Alcatel-Lucent issues 2006 corporate social responsibility report

By Alcatel
Paris, 06 Jun 2007

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced it has issued its corporate social responsibility report.

This report underlines Alcatel-Lucent's commitment to being a socially responsible company, building upon each of the former companies' achievements in the key areas of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and emphasising the new company's objectives to further progress in the future.

"CSR is part of who we are and how we do business every day. For us, enriching people's lives is about more than just delivering the latest communications applications.

"It's about operating in an environmentally friendly manner. It's about providing a healthy work environment for our employees. It's about working to close the digital divide to achieve 'broadband for all'. It's about working with suppliers and partners that share our commitment to being socially responsible. And it's about enhancing the communities in which we live and work through corporate philanthropy," says Patricia Russo, Chief Executive Officer of Alcatel-Lucent.

The 2006 report highlights:

* The foundation of Alcatel-Lucent's CSR approach: its vision, mission, values, and commitment to business ethics and responsible governance.
* The achievements and initiatives of Alcatel and Lucent in 2006 in key areas of CSR: human resources, environment, heath and safety, CSR in the supply chain, digital inclusion and philanthropy, through specific illustrated examples,
* The steps already taken to merge best practices and build common CSR programmes.
* The objectives of the new company to progress in each of these areas.

"Completing this first common report only a few months after the finalisation of the merger was a key milestone in the integration of our strategies and policies. It demonstrates that CSR has been a long-standing endeavour of both companies and will remain one of the new company's priorities," adds Caroline Guillaumin, Vice-President of Corporate Communications and CSR of Alcatel-Lucent.
