Durban North police are investigating the murder of DigiCore Holdings director Nhlanhla Gasa, whose body was found inTugela River, in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to media reports, the 63-year-old businessman and associate of Jacob Zuma was stabbed multiple times on Tuesday, and police found his burnt-out Jaguar nearby.

Eyewitness News reported that, after discovering the body, police found blood around Gasa's Umhlanga home, which indicates that the businessman was initially attacked at his residence. It was also reported that nothing appears to have been taken from the house, which rules out robbery as a motive. No arrests have yet been made.

Gasa served on JSE-listed DigiCore's board as non-executive director and chairman until June 2011 and subsequently as lead independent director.

In a statement to shareholders this afternoon, the fleet management and vehicle-tracking company said Gasa has been a member of the DigiCore board since 2001.

"He was also part of the company's black empowerment shareholders within DigiCore Fleet Management SA and also served as chairman on the board of Ctrack Mzansi.

"Mr Gasa has made a meaningful contribution to the company during his tenure as a director and will be dearly missed."

DigiCore would not comment further at this stage.
