SA warehouse management solution goes global

Global supply chain management company UTi has chosen to implement South African company Cquential's Rapid Deployment warehouse management system at distribution centres in India, Thailand and the Philippines, as well as in SA.

Cquential's warehouse management system is delivered as software-as-a-service via the cloud, enabling rapid deployment without high up-front costs.

We saw that [Cquential] could be a strategic partner for us given their client focus and desire to expand internationally, our need for a solution that would support expansion into key emerging markets, and our desire to replace several legacy warehouse management systems with a single platform," says Jacques Retief, global VP for contract logistics and distribution IT at UTi.

The cloud model allows the solution to be easily exported because it can be deployed remotely, says Steve Mallaby, Cquential CEO. In addition, the warehouse management industry is not beset with the same regulatory and country-specific legal hurdles as are IT systems catering to other industries, such as financial services, he adds.

Cquential's warehouse management system provides real-time stock visibility and accuracy to companies who want to manage their own inventory and warehouses, explains Mallaby. It also improves functionality to third-party logistics providers, he adds.

The solution, which is scalable across various sizes of organisation and can be easily adjusted to grow with the business, aims to optimise space utilisation and reduce manual labour to enable greater staff productivity, Mallaby continues.

Its ultimate goal is to improve customer service by improving accuracy and efficiency in the warehouse, resulting in faster turnaround times and fewer customer returns due to inaccurate deliveries, he puts forward.

The rapid rise in e-commerce and omni-channel sales drives the need for increasingly efficient supply chains, says Mallaby, as consumers are being conditioned to expect more instantaneous and accurate service.
