Faculty Training Institute (FTI) is launching a new programme that enables project managers with proven work experience to fast-track to a national qualification in project management. FTI, which recently became an RPL (recognition of prior learning) centre in project management, is authorised to assess and issue the SAQA registered qualification: National Certificate in Project Management (NQF level 5) (SAQA ID 583395) 120 credits.
"The Certificate in Project Management through RPL is not a training course, but is an assessment support programme," says Carol Mould, PMP and FTI's PM Portfolio Programme Manager. "The programme is attractive to candidates with solid work experience, who wish to gain formal recognition of their project management skills, but may not have had the opportunity to engage in formal learning previously. In addition, the qualification which is registered with SAQA appeals to candidates seeking an accredited national project management qualification," says Mould.
The structure of the programme is modular and consists of five contact days spread over four months. "This practicable format means that students do not have to be resident in either Cape Town or Johannesburg to participate in the programme," says Mould.
Delegates enrolled on the programme are provided with a structured approach, guidance and support while they undergo a series of assessments. "The assessments are specifically designed to assist them to demonstrate their competence by compiling a comprehensive Portfolio of Evidence (POE). Once their POE has been assessed and they have been found competent against the qualification's assessment criteria, candidates graduate with the National Certificate in Project Management," says Mould.
