Cape Town, 14 Nov 2017

Local Acronis distributor Synapsys reports a strong surge in demand for Acronis's cloud data protection services in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.

"We're seeing a strong surge in demand for Acronis cloud-based backup," says Synapsys MD Peter French, "and the momentum is accelerating."

In the six months to end October 2017, Synapsys reports a 950% increase in the number of devices protected compared to the whole of 2016. "Acronis Backup Cloud bookings have grown by more than 600% year on year, and we've doubled the business in just the past three months," French says.

Acronis provides complete data protection essential to businesses of any size, as well as to individual users. This includes Acronis hybrid cloud architecture giving users complete data management flexibility, AI-based ransomware protection capable of blocking zero-day cyber attacks, and blockchain-based data certification for immutable proof of data validity.

Today's businesses in SA and throughout Africa face new challenges when it comes to data protection, including huge increases in data volume, man-made and natural disasters, and cyber threats like ransomware. "The African market has started to recognise the benefits of adopting cloud data protection services, making data protection a modern-day IT requirement that every business needs," French observes.

According to IDC, the global data protection and disaster recovery software market will grow to $8.1 billion by 2019. The South African market for cloud-based backup is projected to grow by over 300%.

"Cloud services present a new paradigm for the delivery of data protection to SA businesses to help meet this demand and open up this huge market opportunity for service providers and cloud resellers with easy-to-deploy, easy-to-sell solutions that are highly scalable," French says.

Acronis has made aggressive investments in cloud data protection and focuses its research and development efforts on developing cloud services solutions for service providers.

Acronis differs from other data protection vendors in that it delivers a complete cloud architecture and its solutions easily plug into existing service provider environments, while seamlessly supporting their management and business support systems - either in pure cloud or hybrid cloud environments.

Acronis solutions also feature automation of services that significantly reduces the total cost of ownership for data protection, and a scale-out architecture that can support millions of end-users.

According to French: "Acronis's goal is to become a global technology leader in hybrid cloud data protection. As Acronis Cloud services distributor, Synapsys is driving adoption in the SA and African market through close relationships with partners and services providers.

"As authorised Acronis cloud distributor, and with unmatched experience and skills with Acronis since 2003, Synapsys is well positioned to capitalise on this explosive growth," enthuses French. "We're highly responsive and go the extra mile to understand our customers' needs, and through a strong channel partnering, we can scale and accelerate our reach to bring Acronis's Data Cloud solutions to customers in SA and sub-Saharan Africa."
