The Institute of IT Professionals SA calls for nominations for the ICT industry's top annual awards.

Members of the public are invited to nominate candidates for the ICT industry's top annual awards - the IT Personality and Visionary CIO of the Year 2017.

The awards are presented by the Institute of IT Professionals SA (IITPSA), in association with ITWeb, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, Engineer IT and Gartner Africa.

This year marks the 39th IT Personality of the Year award, which recognises a person who has made an outstanding impact on the local ICT industry over the past year and a significant contribution to the IT profession.

Adapt IT's Sbu Shabalala was crowned last year's winner, joining a list of previous ICT heavyweights that includes Niel Schoeman, Mteto Nyati and Mark Shuttleworth.

The Visionary CIO award, now in its ninth year, recognises an individual who has shown exceptional leadership in using technology to support and grow business.

Peter Alkema, CIO of FNB Business Banking, won the 2016 Visionary CIO award. Alkema joined previous winners including Peter du Plooy, Tshifhiwa Ramuthaga and Rabelani Dagada.

A judging panel will shortlist 10 IT Personality and 10 Visionary CIO candidates from the nominations and the public will be able to vote for their favourite candidate using an online voting platform. The panel will then select the winners based on the public votes and interviews with the finalists.

The winners will be announced at the IITPSA President's Awards event later this year.
