Demanding performance users that once preferred to work on high-end desktops are increasingly looking towards gaming notebooks as a solution for their business needs. IT specialists, graphic designers, people who process big data or work with video, and those who simply run several demanding applications at the same time are beginning to gravitate towards gaming products such as the Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) range.
That's according to Diana Hughes, Asus product manager at Tarsus Distribution, who says gaming notebooks have extended their reach beyond their initial target market into other high-performance niches.
"With CPUs and graphics cards becoming more energy efficient and a tremendous improvement to mobile cooling solutions, customers can now buy an affordable notebook that can cater for the latest games and handle other demanding applications with ease," says Hughes.
"No longer are gaming notebooks heavy furnaces - there are many options around that run cool and that are light and attractive. You can get a thin device that packs a big punch, which is great if you're a nomad gamer or a designer who likes to take your notebook with when you visit your clients."
Hughes says Asus has crammed a range of innovative features into its ROG notebook range. The G501, for example, offers a 15.6-inch Ultra HD Matte IPS wide-view display with full 4k resolution. Its PCIe x4 solid state drive (SSD) offers near twice the performance of previous gen SSDs.
Under the hood, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M graphics card with Optimus Technology automatically tweaks the GPU for graphics power or battery-boosting efficiency, depending on what you're doing. Despite these premium features, the razor-thin laptop weighs just under 2.06kgs and measures 20.6mm.
The Asus ROG GX700 VO, meanwhile, is the world's first notebook with liquid cooling. Its liquid-cooled docking solution provides desktop level performance at home, but users also enjoy high mobility, with the GTX980M GPU offering top-class graphics on the move. For extreme performance, the GX700 VO offers an Intel K-SKU overclocked CPU up to 4.1GHz and up 64GB of DDR4 RAM.
"Gaming has always set the benchmark for other segments of the PC market to follow and it is setting a new pace for notebook performance," says Hughes. "Today, demanding users can have both performance and portability from their notebooks, with no compromise."
