Switches made simpler for SMEs

Running a small business network used to be complex, but new-generation switches are making it easier than ever for SMEs to get up-and-running with a robust communications backbone that facilitates collaboration.

That's according to Othelo Vieira, Dell enterprise solution specialist at Tarsus Distribution, who says that switches are becoming simpler to deploy and manage in small businesses or remote branches. Switches such as the Dell Networking X-Series bring a level of access and security that, until now, has not been easily achievable by a small business with limited IT resources.

Switches are devices that are used to connect many other devices - servers, printers, PCs, and more - together on a computer network. They are a vital piece of infrastructure for smaller businesses that need to facilitate internal collaboration via VOIP and video, manage growing data volumes, and ensure high levels of security and reliability in their networks.

Vieira says the Dell Networking X-Series is a family of smart managed 1GbE and 10GbE Ethernet switches designed for small and medium businesses who crave enterprise-class network control fused with consumer-like ease. Setup and management are greatly simplified with an intuitive GUI and hardware design.

The switches can be used in conjunction with Dell's SonicWALL TZ series firewalls to get a complete and secure integrated network solution. They are backed by an industry-leading, lifetime warranty guaranteeing basic hardware service.

"Dell offers SMEs a complete networking solution that provides the network bandwidth and reliability necessary for high quality VOIP, instant messaging, streaming video, and large file movement," Vieira says. "Its networking portfolio offers the security and ease of management that fits the needs and resources of today's small business networks."
