Dell has appointed local company Drive Control Corporation (DCC) as the official distributor for Dell's Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The partnership will see DCC responsible for promoting and selling Dell's small and medium enterprise (SME) offerings to Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, Angola and Namibia.

"Due to our existing relationship with Dell in SA, as well as strong logistics which includes our successful branch in Botswana, the distribution appointment made sense to both parties,” says Mandy Porter, Dell business unit manager at DCC.

“Indeed, SA has become a logical point of distribution for the rest of Africa, which is quite a departure from a few years back, and we look forward to the challenge and growing Dell's business in the SADC region," she adds.

According to Porter, Africa offers huge opportunities to multinationals such as Dell and its partners. “The continent has an abundance of natural resources and as such, emerging markets are increasingly enjoying the benefits that come with technology.

"That said, the SME market is relatively unknown in terms of its strength, as the numbers are quite skewed. However, Botswana has been a huge success story for DCC and we hope to achieve similar success in the other countries," adds Porter.
