ICANN chairman steps down

Dr Vinton Cerf, one of the so-called "Fathers of the Internet", is stepping down as chairman of the International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the Internet`s primary governance and oversight group, according to Digital Trends.

Cerf is widely credited with shepherding the organisation through several high-stakes crises and building ICANN into a stronger organisation.

ICANN is responsible for authorising top-level domains (like .com and .net) as well as accrediting domain registrars and operators around the world (in other words, authorising who can offer domain names for sale and manage top-level domains).

News portal honours Solix

Solix Technologies, a provider of enterprise data management solutions (EDMS), received an 'Outstanding Choice` recognition from Byte and Switch, a leading online news portal for the storage industry, according to Newswire Today.

In March 2007, Byte and Switch named Solix as one of the 'Top 10 start-ups to watch`. The editors of Byte and Switch recently concluded: "Solix seems well positioned to compete against the likes of Applimation, HP and Princeton Softech."

Solix EDMS 4.0 enables companies to classify, manage and secure enterprise data for information governance, tiered storage strategies, and application data consolidation through data archiving and data management practices to meet business and regulatory requirements.
