QuickBooks buys local business and takes competition head on

Management of QuickBooks South Africa has acquired the business from Softline for an undisclosed amount. Empowered by its new ownership, the business will strive to become one of South Africa's leading providers of accounting software: "The current demand for accounting software without annual license fees is extremely attractive to local businesses. In addition, QuickBooks' non-modular approach and enhanced data security has also greatly impacted our success," says Ivan Turner, QuickBooks SA, sales manager.

As one of the easiest accounting software products to use, and a worldwide leader, QuickBooks has experienced exceptional growth over the past year. Its product range has extended from two to six, providing entry level as well as power user versions. Unit sales and the user base have both increased by 40 percent with the number of QuickBooks staff doubling in size. Supporting this growth is QuickBooks nationwide infrastructure as well as its presence in several retail outlets, and support centres in countries such as Namibia, Kenya, Mauritius, Malawi, Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Swaziland.

The freedom of choice provided to customers is undoubtedly a major advantage. "There is simply no need to purchase separate modules when you choose QuickBooks. We believe in giving customers the freedom of choice to select what they need. This is fundamental in a country such as South Africa that has over 1.2 million small and medium enterprises, all with very different requirements," says Turner.

He continues to say that QuickBooks' current stance on no annual license fees is directly related to customer needs: "We understand that the running costs of a business remain an issue for our customers and have therefore structured our business and product pricing accordingly." In keeping with meeting customer demands, QuickBooks has also greatly enhanced its security features ensuring users of ultimate data protection. This includes elements such as audit trails and ID and password protection.

"These enhancements are key to our professional services clients, such as the accounting fraternity. It has resulted in renewed interest in QuickBooks SA and is driving the product to become the choice of accountants."

Suitable for any industry sector and all size companies, the QuickBooks range includes: QuickBooks Simple Start; QuickBooks Regular; QuickBooks Pro; QuickBooks Premier; QuickBooks Customer Manager and Quicken XG.
