Breaking PC gaming down further, boxed and downloaded games will attract $33.9 billion or 21% of the total revenue while browser PC gamers will account for $3.08 billion or 9% of the total revenue generated.

A population explosion

According to the company, the gaming population exploded in the first quarter of 2020 for a variety of reasons, with the main one being the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“The estimated revenue from 2020’s gaming sector is high considering that with the coronavirus pandemic, gaming has offered an escape route for those in lockdown,” said Finbold.com.

In addition, the company said that factors including competitions and increased penetration of smartphones worldwide will drive additional growth in the gaming sector.
