Afrocentric IP, a company based at the Innovation Hub within the Maxum Business Incubator, with a primary focus on data centre services and business continuity (disaster recovery solutions), has recently won an award as "Best Newcomer 2011" in the Novell ecosystem value chain.
The company, led by Luvo Gwiliza, has been in the Novell ecosystem for over seven years, with extensive experience in SA's public sector, private sector and the rest of Africa.
This award comes after Afrocentric IP has just obtained a Novell GOLD Partnership Status after having implemented a Novell Platespin Forge Disaster Recovery Solution at the Human Sciences Research Council.
The main business drivers for implementing such a solution were compliance and business continuity.
The solution entailed:
* Implementing a single management framework for both Linux and Windows workloads/servers.
* The recovery point objective was reduced to one hour.
* The recovery time objective was reduced to an average of 20 minutes per workload.
* The test time objective was reduced to an average of one to two hours.
* Reduced the total cost of ownership to 60%, compared to traditional DR approaches of duplicating the production environment.
