Kaspersky Lab has appointed Amir Kanaan as MD for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META) region.

Kanaan replaces Maxim Frolov, who was recently promoted to vice president of global sales for Kaspersky Lab.

In his new role, Kanaan will be responsible for strengthening Kaspersky Lab's leadership in the region by strategically promoting the company's vision of spreading cyber security awareness on a national level. He will also continue to promote the company's consumer products and its threat intelligence services, says Kaspersky.

"Being part of a region that is known to be one of the earliest adopters of new technology is exciting because this fast-paced transition makes the focus on cyber security essential. I'm proud to be part of Kaspersky Lab and I'm excited to work on improving the level of cyber security in the META region. Together with our partners, we will be constantly helping individuals and organisations to stay safe from the dangers of the cyber world."

Previously, Kanaan held the general manager position for the Middle East at Kaspersky Lab from 2016 to 2018, the company says. He played a vital role in positioning Kaspersky as a market leader in its industry and has contributed greatly to the company's growth in the region, it adds.

Kanaan has more than 17 years of managerial and sales experience in the field of IT security, notes Kaspersky. He has headed sales departments in large IT companies such as Emirates Computers, Trend Micro and Bluecoat.

Kanaan holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in the US.

Earlier this year, Kaspersky Lab announced an 8% year-on-year growth globally for 2017, says the company. The performance was driven by strong results, particularly in the META region, which showed a 31% growth in bookings in 2017, says Kaspersky.
