CyberTech, a division of JSE-listed technology company Altron, and Barnes are delighted to announce a partnership that will see CyberTech represent, sell and support the Barnes P3 EMV data preparation platform in South Africa. Barnes Smart Solutions is a leading international provider of solutions for card and mobile payments.

P3 was previously supplied by Thales eSecurity, before it became part of the Barnes product portfolio. P3 is a turnkey solution comprising a Windows-based application with a FIPS 140-2 level three approved hardware security module (HSM).

This solution provides a simple, low-cost EMV data preparation solution for issuers to migrate from magnetic stripe cards to EMV smart cards. All the EMV card keys and data required for the various card association applications are created and managed in-house by the issuer in a range of output formats, delivering flexibility in choosing one or more bureaus for the card personalisation process.

Key benefits of P3

* Delivers 100% in-house control over cryptographic keys;
* Supports all major card association payment applications;
* Generates keys and EMV parameters from existing magnetic stripe files;
* Supports instant issuance and on-demand replacement of cards;
* RSA key generation with key caching; and
* Flexible output format to support personalisation of MULTOS, GlobalPlatform and proprietary single/multi-application cards.

Herman Kriel, General Manager for Data Protection at CyberTech, states: "In this partnership, we are driven by the desire to see the world work securely. We focus on partnering with like-minded entities to deliver technology solutions that are fast, reliable and efficient. We combine technical expertise with in-depth customer understanding to provide end-to-end holistic cryptographic technology and cyber security solutions."

CyberTech is a managed cyber security service provider, with over 15 years' experience providing cryptographic services in many African countries, as well as Europe. It employs highly skilled, certified cryptographic engineers who assist clients in their transactional and information security transformation journey within various sectors, including the financial services sector, public sector and retail and telecommunications industries.

Barnes is the chosen EMV and magnetic stripe test tool partner of banks and issuers, card manufacturers, personalisation bureaus, test laboratories and payment schemes worldwide. Barnes Smart Solutions is part of the Barnes International group that is headquartered in the UK, with offices in US, China, Malaysia, India, Portugal, Spain and Kenya, and with a 27-year history, the resources of the group and collective intellectual ability will be leveraged to the advantage of its customers.

Barnes Smart Solutions was formed during 2017 in order to establish an innovative technology-driven solutions company that will initially focus on building the capacity to service current P3 customers, to onward develop and enhance the P3 product family and to provide ongoing maintenance support. As part of the Barnes International group, Barnes Smart Solutions is able to reach customers for sales and support around the globe.

Susan Higgo, MD at Barnes Smart Solutions, goes on to mention: "The rapid increase in electronic payments methods and contactless smart cards continues to drive growth in that market and the need for personalisation, preparation and process for these cards and IOT devices. Our world-class expertise in payments, together with CyberTech's technical and customer requirements knowledge, will enable us to provide ongoing support for existing Thales P3 customers as well as continue to drive innovation."

"We're continuously looking to improve our services, offerings and experiences to our customers. It is only through collaborating that we can achieve more," says Kriel.
