Dr Setumo Mohapi will not return as CEO of the State IT Agency (SITA) after his contract comes to an end on 31 March.

SITA spokesperson Anthea Summers told ITWeb that Mohapi declined the offer to have his contract extended, citing health reasons.

According to Summers, the SITA board offered to extend Mohapi's contract for six months after it concludes at the end of the month, but he requested to serve his three-month notice period from home.

Mohapi will be replaced by Nthuthule Tshenye, executive for strategic stakeholder management at SITA, in an acting capacity. Tshenye will assume the acting CEO role on Monday, 1 April.

Summers says the incoming CEO will be in the position until SITA finds a replacement, and adds the agency will advertise the post soon.

Mohapi joined SITA in April 2015, becoming the government IT agency's 18th CEO.

During his tenure, he was vocal about the agency's legacy issues and was committed to what he termed as a "SITA clean-up".
