Seasoned ICT expert Greg Montjoie has joined fast-growing telecoms player Comsol to spearhead the organisation's Internet of things (IOT) business.

Comsol's IOT business and its solution offerings will be formally launched to market as a separate operating entity later in 2018.

"Our emerging IOT business is one of three key pillars of the organisation," notes Comsol CEO Iain Stevenson, "alongside our core layer two wireless network known as Comsol Connect, and our plans to harness our 28GHz spectrum to create next-generation 5G services."

"Greg is an established and highly respected leader in the local ICT industry, and we look forward to having someone of his calibre at the helm of our IOT ambitions," he adds.

With almost two decades of experience in the ICT industry - in both local and international markets - Montjoie was instrumental in leading Internet Solutions' data centre and cloud expansion. Most recently, he led the team that launched Internet Solutions' software-defined networking and long-term evolution services to the local market.

"Greg's proven track record of product release, incubation and ongoing leadership means he's perfectly primed to lead our IOT business," adds Stevenson. "we're looking forward to his energy, passion and vision for IOT across the continent."

Having established the widest public Open Access LoRaWAN (2.0) network in Africa, underpinned by a world-class device management network server, Stevenson notes the next step is to build out a comprehensive ecosystem for low power WAN services - orchestrating the efforts of device manufacturers, businesses, application providers, analytics platforms, integrators, and other key role-players.

In joining Comsol's executive team, Montjoie says: "Comsol has a rich history and 21-year track-record of delivering wireless connectivity services to its customers. The LoRaWAN network is a natural extension of the strengths Comsol brings to the market - as our existing skills, infrastructure and relationships position us to rapidly build out a low power WAN network."

"IOT is an exciting technology space at the moment with the segment growing exponentially, which can offer real solutions to many business problems, as well as helping us solve some of our social and economic challenges. Already, there are some amazing IOT projects on the go: rhino conservation, water-saving initiatives and smart farming. It's exciting to be a part of this unfolding story."
