'Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower in our industry'

Johannesburg, 04 May 2018

Roan Systems has been at the forefront of innovative measures to create cost-effective yet efficient printing and mobility solutions for over 20 years.

Small to medium-sized businesses tend to struggle with the impact that economical shifts create in their set industries, and thus neglect their needs for up-to-date equipment and/or software.

This issue only creates a negative snowball effect within the company, slowing down the staff potential to help clients or effectively completing their day-to-day projects, which also affects staff morale and leads to inevitable problems.

In September 2017, Roan Systems Chief Commercial Officer Frikkie Koegelenberg announced the launch of the company's new product as a service managed solution, called Roan Simplify, to ease the process of procuring, operating and managing end-of-life or end-of-service requirements.

Roan Simplify shifts the entire ownership and maintenance burden of running printers, scanners and other similar equipment, along with the software they need, from the customer to Roan. He explained: "Roan Simplify is a product-based service based on a location."

For a fixed monthly fee, customers can specify the exact configuration of equipment they need, from a fleet of scanners and business-wide POS machines to individual printers at remote branch offices. Roan will supply, install, maintain and replace the equipment for its lifetime and beyond.

"For the past 20 years, we've built up a large and loyal customer base that regularly consults us on new equipment purchases and rentals, but we've also noted a trend among our customers that want to simplify their operational processes even further," says Koegelenberg.

"Specialised printing, scanning, bar coding and mobility solutions are not our customers' core business," he says. "They rely on this technology to do business, but their focus is on their customers, as it should be.

"Roan Simplify is designed to shift the equipment ownership-maintenance-replacement life cycle over to us. Customers can still come to us with a list of equipment and configurations they need, but instead of buying or leasing it, we take over the entire process for them, from sourcing to configuration, even user training. We also buy back customer fleets."

Koegelenberg says customers will benefit from budgeting for fixed equipment and operational costs upfront, with no hidden fees or additional costs.

"Not only will they not have to worry about managing the ageing of any of their assets again, they can also rest easy knowing that Roan will regularly service and maintain the equipment. Should there be a problem with a part that can't be easily fixed, it will either be replaced or a whole new machine will be put in its place," he says.

"This ensures round-the-clock availability of all the equipment covered by the Roan Simplify service, whether it's at head office or a remote location."

Downtime and affordability are two aspects of the service that Koegelenberg believes Roan Simplify will resolve from the start. "Many of our manufacturing customers, for example, need a thermal printer at a small branch or remote depot, but are up against budget constraints.

"With Roan Simplify, they get to use the most suitable equipment for the job, complete with delivery, installation and maintenance, and we always have backup equipment on hand should there ever be a fault. Our goal is to deliver as close to zero-downtime service, complete with proactive preventative maintenance and regular software updates, without the customer ever having to call us because of an outage."
