In the midst of the global pandemic, enterprise software company Software AG remains committed to transformative change as part of its Transformation Strategy for 2020. As such, Software AG has donated 5 000 food parcels towards the Solidarity Fund. The company has partnered with the Gauteng Food Security Committee (GFSC), which distributed the 5 000 food parcels to 35 communities negatively affected by COVID-19.
Poverty and hunger are on an upward trajectory in marginalised communities as a consequence of the national lockdown, which has resulted in an economic shutdown for many. Food insecurity has become a reality for many families as they are unable to work and earn an income. COVID-19 is bigger than governmental social welfare systems, civil organisations, NPOs and religious organisations can handle, so every bit of help goes a long way.
Software AG’s partnership with the GFSC offers assistance and relief in communities during this time of crisis. “We have assisted by responding efficiently to the food crisis through the distribution of food hampers. Each of the hampers will be distributed through a network of multi-faith religious or aide community-based organisations that explicitly recognise and identify the families in need,” says Kholiwe Makhohliso, VP & Country Manager for Software AG South Africa.
This initiative has sourced and packaged approximately 5 000 food hampers and distributed these to 35 impoverished communities through 12 downstream community partners. Warehousing and packaging facilities have been established in Lanseria and Kempton Park, with trucks available for logistical support.
The GFSC says: “This is a humanitarian crisis of significant scale and the Gauteng Food Security Committee would like to thank Software AG for their contribution to these food relief efforts in our province.”
Software AG’s transformation initiatives are at the core of the company’s ethos. “This is why, at a time when our country faces an uncertain future, providing food and essentials to those who are most vulnerable in our communities will go a long way in alleviating the pressures that are faced by our communities,” adds Makhohliso.
“The Solidarity Fund is a great initiative that has shown that when people from different backgrounds pull together, they can achieve great things, despite the odds or the crisis. We hope to be able to assist more people in the future,” concludes Makhohliso.
