INX-ZA, a division of the Internet Service Provider’s Association (ISPA), operates community-run Internet eXchange (IX) points in South Africa. INX-ZA’s longest operating Internet exchange has been in operation for 25 years with 100% uptime and has earned a special reputation for stability and security in the industry.
INX-ZA needed a solution that would provide scalable and on-cost resilient bandwidth between sites, for its Johannesburg-based IX. SGT Solutions, an Infinera partner in South Africa, fulfilled the requirement with a high-performance optical solution.
The solution of choice was the Infinera Cloud Xpress series together with the Infinera XTM Series Fibre Protection Units for fibre redundancy.This satisfied the high service availability requirements of INX-ZA.

Boost capacity-reach
With a state-of-the-art maximum baud rate of 96 G-baud, ICE6 delivers industry-leading wavelength capacity-reach over a wide range of wave length speeds, including 800G, 600G and 400G. Proof points include a recent live network trial of 800G over 950km.
Lower operational costs
ICE6 enables platform power consumption of less than 0.2 W/Gb/s and can deliver up to 3.2Tb/s of coherent bandwidth in one rack unit. Operational costs are further reduced with a small number of high-capacity wavelengths to provision and manage, as opposed to a larger number of low capacity wavelengths.
Leverage innovative features
Innovative features include second-generation Nyquist subcarriers, long-codeword probabilistic constellation shaping, dynamic bandwidth allocation and SD-FEC gain shaping. Additional advanced features include high-performance FEC, advanced telemetry, wire-speed encryption and the ability to load share clients over the two wavelengths.
