Altron Karabina achieves level one BBBEE status

Johannesburg, 01 Jul 2021

Altron Karabina, a subsidiary of JSE-listed Altron, has announced it has achieved broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) level one contribution status.

Altron Karabina Managing Director Collin Govender said: “This achievement is an important milestone for us and reflects the transformation of our business to create opportunity for everyone. While we acknowledge the achievement, we know this is not a destination, but rather an important waypoint on the journey towards an equal and just society.”

Altron Karabina is a business technology solutions company that represents Microsoft and partners with hundreds of companies along their digital transformation journeys, including but not limited to, Azure cloud solutions, Office 365 collaboration, ERPs, customer engagement platforms, data, analytics and machine learning. Altron Karabina develops solutions to transform business and technology platforms, empower customers and employees and accelerate business results.

“The Altron Karabina business has come on in leaps and bounds over the past three-and-a-half years or so. It helps having a bigger sibling in the shape of Altron to give meaningful advice on procedures and policies to actively drive the transformation strategy in the business and the group,” added Govender.

While empowerment scores are important to access business opportunities, Govender said the overall orientation of the company was to consciously work towards creating the kind of country we want the next generation to enjoy: one of equal opportunity for all. This, he said, was helped greatly by proactively addressing ownership and management demographics, skills development, SMME support through procurement and socio-economic development initiatives – all key metrics in government’s economic empowerment benchmarks.

Govender said that proactively driving Altron Karabina’s own transformation benefits both its customers and its staff. “A diverse workforce means we are able to have more impact for our customers, while internally, our staff are exposed to equal opportunities in their careers.”
