Huawei has introduced its intent-driven solution to its enterprise customers in South Africa.

The solution, which is already available globally, was introduced in South Africa on 1 June.

Intent-driven networking is a piece of networking software that helps to plan, design and implement or operate networks, which can improve network availability and agility.

"By introducing a new architecture for intent-driven network, Huawei CloudCampus helps enterprises build future-proof wired and wireless networks that feature uncompromised user experience, automated service provisioning, operations and maintenance and converged access," says Kameshwar Rao Sorda, solutions director for Huawei Enterprise Southern Africa.

The solution will help enterprises to build an intelligent digital network platform that links together business intent and network architecture, enabling digital transformation, he adds.

Legacy networks cannot support the demands of digital transformation, so we are entering a period of accelerated change in the enterprise network market, says IDC. New architecture for intent-driven networking will help networks respond quickly to operation needs, it adds.

The CloudCampus solution uses artificial intelligence, big data, and cloud technologies in the network architecture to help simplify management, reduce operational expenditure and improve security, says IDC.

As IT services are increasingly being deployed and managed from the cloud, the CloudCampus solution ensures that hundreds of data centres spread across multiple geographic locations are connected and can deliver on business needs, says Sorda.

"Connectivity, the key to building a digital platform in an enterprise, is being extended from people to things and environments," says Wang Shihong, general manager of Huawei's Campus Network Domain.

"Our CloudCampus solution will help enterprises to build an intelligent digital network platform that links together business intent and network architecture, enabling digital transformation.

"A better connected world is fast approaching. Fast-growing technologies such as big data, cloud computing, the Internet of things and mobile Internet are driving society to the next level of intelligence.

"It is predicted that by 2025, there will be more than 100 billion connections worldwide, and digital transformation will thrive in diverse sectors like commercial, education, transportation, and manufacturing."

The findings of the Huawei 2017 Global Connectivity Index, which surveyed 3 000 enterprises from a range of industries, show that connectivity enables enterprises to break regional boundaries and respond to customers faster, improving their productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness in the marketplace.

Intent-driven networking is nascent, but could be the next big thing in networking, as it promises to improve network availability and agility, which are key as organisations transition to digital business, says Gartner. Infrastructure and operations leaders responsible for networking need to determine if and when to pilot this technology, it adds.
