Leading open source technology and services provider Obsidian Systems will join its industry partner, Israeli IT firm and key open source project RedisLabs, at this year’s Microsoft Open Cloud Summit to demonstrate the value of this growing ecosystem.

The Open Cloud Summit takes place on 28 November 2019 at the Fox Junction, Ferreirasdorp, Johannesburg.

The event is a must for stakeholders with a vested interest in the development of South Africa’s open source community and the projects that characterise this rapidly expanding area of ICT.

It will feature guest speakers from leading projects such as GitHub, SUSE, Kubernetes, Spark, OpenShift, PostgreSQL and RedisLabs.

Muggie van Staden, MD of leading open source technology and services provider Obsidian Systems, explains that the open source market in South Africa continues to grow, driven by businesses wanting to explore viable, cost-effective and easily managed infrastructure management options.

“On the day, we will showcase how RedisLabs consistently ranks as a leader in top analyst reports on NoSQL, in-memory databases, operational databases, and database-as-a-service and is trusted by over 8 200 enterprise customers. As a premier Microsoft partner, we are proud to help highlight the advantages of open source and the success of ongoing projects,” said Van Staden.

The Open Cloud Summit is a one-day conference that will showcase innovative open platforms in the cloud and is a platform for recognised industry experts and guest speakers from leading projects to engage with top contributors, partners, community influencers and customers.

“We are excited about the level of technology innovation and development within the open source market. Moreover, as an influential Microsoft partner, we are encouraged at the opportunity that Microsoft Azure represents and the value it can offer businesses in South Africa. The Open Cloud Summit reflects on the progress local businesses have made in understanding and adopting cloud, and what awaits those businesses in the process of cloud migration today. Obsidian is ideally positioned to add value to businesses in their migration to the cloud, their uptake of next generation workflow solutions and their increased ability to compete in a fast-growing, tech-centric and data fuelled business environment,” Van Staden adds.

The ability to tap into the cloud, cloud services and development to enhance business processes is considered a core value proposition in the market today.
