The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) Public Service ICT Awards will again acknowledge the positive influence women and youth, as well as small, medium and micro enterprises (SMEs) have had on government service delivery through the adoption of information and communication technology (ICT).

Launched at last year's very successful GovTech conference, the SITA Public Service ICT Awards will be a major highlight of this year's event, which will be held from 30 October to 2 November 2016 at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.

Importantly, they will also highlight the achievements made by "start-ups" that have promoted innovation, leadership excellence in information technology operations, best practice in public service delivery and transformation of the business of government through the effective use of technology.

Last year's event recognised the stellar efforts made by SMEs, such as Funzi and CommutaX, as well as women, including Lindelwa Nzimande, founder of Words and All, and Ann Kleynhans, founder of CEOS Technologies.

Jaen-Jacques Nell, a 16-year old inventor of the Smart Plate, and Joel Seabi, a young, motivated ICT professional within the Limpopo Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, also served as shining examples of the innovative capability that resides within South Africa's youth.

Due to the important role the awards are playing as a transformation agent within government, SITA chief executive officer Dr Setumo Mohapi welcomes more participation from women, youth and SMEs in this year's SITA Public Service ICT Awards.

"If you think you or your business have the potential to spawn an idea to produce innovations that will make the government function optimally and efficiently, you can nominate yourself or someone," Mohapi concludes.
