As the fast pace of smartphone evolution continues, Oppo has added another budget-priced phone to its local list with the launch of A74 5G.

Oppo, which has risen through the ranks to become the number one smartphone brand in China, yesterday introduced the latest A-Series smartphone in the local market.

“Oppo A74 5G appeals to smartphone users that balance work with life and seek a mainstream design from a smartphone, but also pays attention to the details that enable users to extract the most value from a truly well-balanced Oppo A Series phone in terms of tech and design,” says Liam Faurie, head of go-to-market and operations for Oppo South Africa.

The phone is priced at R7 499 and is available for purchase and contracts from R399 per month in Vodacom and MTN stores across the country.

“South Africans are savvy tech users and understand exactly what it is that they want from a smart device. At Oppo, we remain committed to developing technology that does more, costs less, and is still aesthetically pleasing,” says Faurie.

With this latest addition, there are now five Oppo smartphone models available in SA, including the tech giant’s first premium offering, the Reno5 5G, launched in March.

On the specifications front, Oppo says the A74 5G has a “90Hz hyper-colour screen that enhances the display’s vibrancy, which when coupled with its 90Hz refresh rate, creates a smoother, more immersive user experience”.

The A74 5G has a 90.5% screen to body ratio, which Oppo says provides a sleeker design and seamless touch-screen interactions.

Additionally, Oppo says, the new phone’s single charge allows for multi-day usage, thanks to its 5 000mAh 18W fast-charge battery.

The smartphone also comes fitted with a 16MP front camera and a 48MP rear camera, with the ability to capture 108MP photos through software upscaling, to create photos from photos while retaining image clarity.

The A74 5G houses Oppo’s ColorOS, with Android 11 and Google App functionality, while fitted with the Qualcomm processing chip.
